Phi Theta Kappa Students Earn Statewide Recognition

Butte College Phi Theta Kappa honor students Cole Militano and Helen Pacatte earned placement on the 2024 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-California Academic Team.

This year, 122 graduating students were chosen from across the California Community Colleges for the All-California Academic First, Second and Third Teams. Militano captured a spot on the First Team, while Pacatte secured a spot on the Third Team. Placement in the teams is based on students’ grades, leadership, and community service. The students selected represent some of the best of the two million students enrolled in California's 116 community colleges.

Students are nominated by their advisors.

"We are thrilled that two of our distinguished PTK students - Cole and Helen - have been awarded these prestigious awards in recognition of their academic excellence, scholarly depth, and outstanding contributions in leadership and service," said Dr. Nathen Murawski, advisor for Butte College Phi Theta Kappa. "Both students extend their education beyond the classroom to benefit the college and our community."

"These awards also underscore the commitment of Butte College to fostering an environment that nurtures intellectual growth and leadership," he added.

PTK recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders. Established in 1918, PTK has grown to more than 3.5 million members in the United States and worldwide. Building on the success of the national All-USA Team Program, PTK launched the All-State Academic Team Program to provide recognition at the state level for top community college students.

Community College League of California President, Larry Galizio congratulated students in a statement. "These students embody academic excellence. Their dedication and hard work serve as an example for their peers and communities. The League is pleased to recognize the All-California Academic Honor Roll honorees with well-deserved medallions and certificates.”
